Bhutia checks out what the fuss is about.

3 Febuary, 2002 (Round - 11)

It's about the "little leaguers"! A special visitor came to check out the IYSA Mini Soccer League - Bhaichung Bhutia, (see pics) the Indian captain was in town and dropped in to watch a couple of games. And, he was treated to a show of super finishing by Nikhil Ledlie as the 10 Hurricanes beat the Cubs 7-0. Bhaichung seemed quite impressed and shook hands with the league's top scorer before he left.

The Star interview: Imaad, Gautam, Nikhil and Sidharth

Well before Bhaichung showed up we witnessed what must be the most tactical game of the season. The Atoms and the Tigers were superbly organized with their attacking and defending play, which was probably why there were few goal-scoring chances in an absorbing game. Ishaan Khosla was unlucky to put through his own net as he tried to clear a cross to the far post. And the Atoms went two nil up when Pratap Atwal picked up a loose clearance and picked his spot to score. The Tigers didn't give up and Ishaan brought them back into the game when he scored from a rare break away. The Atoms packed the defense as the Tigers went looking for an equaliser only to run out of time.

The Ten Hurricanes warmed up for their top of the table clash with a convincing 7-0 victory over the Super Cubs. Vidur Bharatram and Uday Vir Singh scored a goal each and Ledlie hit the other five.

The Red Hot Suns were in another thriller. This time they drew 3-3 with the Lightning Strikers. Sahib Singh gave the Suns a lead but goals from Ashwin Hoon and a penalty from Arjun Dutt put the Lightning Strikers in the lead. Gautam Anand however equalized for the Suns but when Ashwin put the Strikers ahead at 3-2 it looked all over for the Suns. With seconds remaining Sahib Singh found some space on the left and scored to prevent what looked like a certain defeat for the Red Hot Suns.

The Ninjas made a great comeback from their two defeats to beat the Happy Hawks 3-1. Sidharth Khanna, Prithvi Dev and Rahul Sharma all scored a goal each. Imaad Lalljee scored for the Hawks.
